Residential Support Worker

At OIB Child and Youth Services we believe that all children and youth should have the opportunity to live in a safe and nurturing environment.  We provide all-inclusive care in a residential setting to children ranging in age from 6-12 years old.  Staff at OIB provide a high level of care and support impacting the development and well-being of the youth in our homes.

Job Description:

  • Provide support for daily living activities including shopping and meal preparation, laundry, and housekeeping
  • Work with the youth’s team to help facilitate family connection, life skills supports and activities
  • Assist in the general housekeeping and maintenance of the facility
  • Escort youths to off-site programs, appointments, and other planned events
  • Manage and administer medications
  • Provide emotional and behavioral support
  • Log in and check daily communications and emails
  • Document according to Policy and Procedures charts, notes, and incident reports
  • Keep current on social concerns and youth issues and best practices

Skills and Abilities:

  • Be familiar with, build and maintain positive relationships with appropriate community resources
  • Ability to use sound judgement while working in demanding conditions and circumstances
  • Ability to employ complex behaviour management skills and techniques
  • Ability to exercise judgment in keeping with program philosophy when supervisor is unavailable for consultation
  • Ability to problem solve, work independently as well as part of a team
  • Motivates, assists, and instructs
  • Reliable and passionate about helping youth in our community
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Education, Training and Qualifications:

Grade 12 diploma, plus post-secondary education in Human Services i.e. Community, Family and Child Services, Mental Health, Early Childhood Education or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Clear criminal and background check
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
  • Food Safe Level 1
  • Negative TB Test
  • Office computer literacy skills such as Office 365
